Thomas Marek's Demo Reel

Thomas Marek's Jazz Tap Quartet (Vienna)

English Version:

Trumpet, bass, guitar, drums, and feet: dance event or jazz concert?
The question doesn’t arise.
When tap dancer and drummer Thomas Marek performs with his band, music becomes visible, as the percussive sounds of tap merge with the arrangements and improvisations of his band. A tap dance show as a concert.
In their concert performance, trumpeter Thomas Berghammer, bassist Gina Schwarz, guitarist Kenji Herbert, and tap dancer/drummer Thomas Marek push the boundaries of jazz and tap dance. They break away from classical song structures and delve into musical and dance improvisation. Here, traditional constants like timing, melody, and theme are deconstructed and reassembled kaleidoscopically into ever-changing, fluid motifs. Thomas Marek's dance improvisations develop their own musical percussion language, treating the entire body as a musical instrument.
Together with the powerful, avant-garde playing of Schwarz, Berghammer, and Herbert, this creates an intense concert experience, driven by the musicians' communication with each other and their interaction on stage.

Deutsche Version :
